BOOK · VERIFY · FLY · RECOVER

The flight is one line.
The handoffs are the trip.

Use the operating carrier, exact airport and original passport as the anchors. This guide separates booking, airport operations, baggage and disruption responsibility so one changing screen does not control the whole journey.

SHORT ANSWER

Confirm the operating carrier, airport code, terminal and carrier deadline; carry the original booking passport; keep power banks in cabin baggage and compliant with mainland domestic-flight rules; if the flight changes, preserve the reason and ask the carrier for the involuntary change or refund route before buying again.

01 / BEFORE PAYMENT

Build one identity and flight record

IDENTITY

Use the booking passport

Enter the traveler name and passport data using the carrier or seller’s field instructions. A display difference is not automatically an error; a wrong passenger or document number can be.

  • Carry the same original passport
  • Check every passenger and segment
  • Do not self-correct after ticketing without asking
OPERATOR

Find the airline that flies it

A codeshare or platform record may show more than one company. Save the operating carrier because it owns check-in, boarding and the live flight operation.

  • Operating airline
  • Flight number and date
  • Carrier booking reference
PLACE

Verify code and terminal

Beijing and Shanghai have multiple airports. Other cities can have distant terminals or similarly named transport hubs. Confirm against the airline or airport, not a map search alone.

  • Three-letter airport code
  • Live terminal
  • Road-accessible entrance
BEFORE YOU PAY

Read the fare’s voluntary change, refund, baggage and no-show conditions. A cheap ticket is not cheaper if its restrictions break the rest of the route.

02 / DEPARTURE CLOCK

Work backward from the carrier deadline

  1. 01

    Recheck on the travel day

Use the operating airline and airport channels for terminal and status. A seller notification is useful, but it is not the only live source.

    VERIFY
  2. 02

    Protect check-in and bag drop

Use the deadline shown by the operating carrier for that flight and airport. Do not substitute a generic “two hours” rule for a live cutoff.

    DEADLINE
  3. 03

Add terminal transport and a failure buffer

Allow for hotel checkout, traffic, wrong pickup points, station transfers and the final walk to the correct airline zone.

    BUFFER
  4. 04

    Separate documents and security items

Keep the passport, booking reference, essential medicine and compliant power bank accessible rather than buried in checked baggage.

    ACCESS
  5. 05

    Save a second route

Keep the airport name and terminal in Chinese plus an alternative transport option that does not depend on the same app or payment method.

03 / BAGS & BATTERIES

Three rule owners, not one “China limit”

AIRLINE

Allowance and special items

The operating carrier’s conditions control included baggage, size, weight, excess charges and special-item acceptance. Save the allowance attached to the actual fare.

CAAC / SECURITY

Dangerous-goods limits

Power banks must stay with the passenger or in cabin baggage. Mainland domestic sectors also apply CCC-mark, recall and watt-hour checks.

DESTINATION

Onward rules still matter

A domestic segment can connect to an international flight, train or destination-country restriction. Pack for every controlled handoff, not only the first counter.

04 / DELAY OR CANCELLATION

Protect the live ticket before improvising

  1. 01

Capture the current status and reason

Save the airline message, airport display, flight number, time and stated reason. Ask the carrier for written delay or cancellation proof when needed.

    EVIDENCE
  2. 02

    Ask for the involuntary route

CAAC rules distinguish voluntary from involuntary change and refund. Ask what the operating carrier can change, endorse or refund before cancelling yourself or buying a replacement.

    OPTIONS
  3. 03

Check the cause before assuming meals or a hotel

CAAC’s published guidance separates carrier-caused disruptions from weather, air traffic control, security and other causes. Service and who pays can differ.

    CAUSE
  4. 04

    Protect the next booking

Contact the hotel, connecting carrier, attraction or pickup provider before a no-show deadline. A disrupted flight does not automatically change separate bookings.

    HANDOFF
  5. 05

    Escalate with a complete record

Use the carrier first, then the seller or platform for its record. If the published complaint route does not resolve the matter, use the civil aviation service quality channel.

    ESCALATE
