CURB · LIFT · SEAT · TOILET · REST

Verify the whole path.
Not one ramp.

China has a national accessibility framework and expanding transport support, but a label cannot prove that the exact curb, lift, platform, room, toilet and attraction route works for one traveler on one date. Build continuity across every handoff.

FOR mobility and pace needsMETHOD exact-path confirmationMEDICAL not assessed here
SHORT ANSWER

Use fewer hotel bases, keep one high-dependency activity per day, and obtain written confirmation for the exact entrance, lift, bathroom, boarding help and assistive-device handling. Age alone does not define a traveler’s needs, and a disability label does not define the same solution for everyone.

01 / FUNCTIONAL BRIEF

Describe the task, not a diagnosis

WALK

Distance and surface

How far can the traveler comfortably move before resting? Are cobbles, steep slopes, rain, heat or long standing the real constraint?

STEPS

Exact stair boundary

Is one step possible, or is a completely step-free route required? Can a mobility device be lifted—and should it ever be?

TRANSFER

Boarding support

Can the traveler transfer independently to a train, aircraft or vehicle seat? Is an aisle chair, platform bridge or human assistance needed?

DEVICE

Dimensions and battery

Record folded and open dimensions, weight, battery chemistry and removability, charger and any handling restrictions.

TOILET

Timing and setup

Define required frequency, side-transfer space, support rails, companion assistance and what ordinary facilities cannot provide.

ENERGY

Useful hours

Set a comfortable out-of-hotel duration and recovery pattern. Do not turn every day into a test of maximum endurance.

PRIVACY BOUNDARY

Share only the functional information needed by the provider. Do not email passports, medical records or full itineraries unless an authorized secure process specifically requires them.

02 / ROUTE DESIGN

Reduce the number of fragile handoffs

  1. 01

    Use fewer hotel bases

Every city change repeats packing, checkout, curb access, station or airport processing, boarding, arrival and a new room route.

    BASES
  2. 02

    Protect arrival and departure days

Do not place the trip’s irreplaceable attraction after an international arrival or before a tight departure.

    BUFFER
  3. 03

    One high-dependency task per day

A timed ticket, distant day trip and evening show can each require separate access proof. Choose the one that matters most.

    PACE
  4. 04

    Put rest beside value

Choose hotels and meal stops near the experience, not only near a landmark on a city map.

    ENERGY
  5. 05

    Carry a lower-dependency alternative

If a lift, vehicle, weather condition or fatigue breaks the plan, switch to a nearby accessible option instead of improvising another long transfer.

    BACKUP
03 / RAIL & AIR

Reserve assistance with the actual operator

CHINA RAILWAY

Submit each segment separately

China Railway’s current special key-passenger notice says an online request should be submitted at least six hours before travel. If less than six hours remain, request at the departure station no later than 60 minutes before that train. A connection requires a separate request for each segment.

  • Use exact station and train details.
  • State the functional assistance and device.
  • Carry the booked passport and required proof.
  • Confirm the arrival handoff—not only boarding.
DOMESTIC FLIGHT

Request before the operating flight

CAAC rules require certain needs—such as checked electric wheelchairs, an onboard aisle chair, medical oxygen, disability groups or a service dog—to be requested at booking and no later than 48 hours before departure. Airline and aircraft details still control the actual handling plan.

  • Contact the operating airline, not only the seller.
  • Give device dimensions, weight and battery details.
  • Confirm curb-to-seat and arrival assistance.
  • Reconfirm after a flight or aircraft change.

04 / HOTEL PROOF

“Accessible room” is not enough information

CURB TO ROOM

Trace every threshold

Ask about the vehicle drop-off, entrance lip, ramp slope, doors, lift availability, corridor width and room threshold.

BATHROOM

Request facts or current photos

Confirm door width, shower threshold, seat, grab rails, toilet height and side-transfer space. A generic room photo is not proof.

OUTAGE

Know the fallback

Ask what happens if the lift, accessible entrance or booked room is unavailable. Record the property—not a booking platform—as the on-site owner.

05 / ATTRACTIONS

Confirm the route that reaches the experience

GATE

Find the correct entrance

The ticket gate, security entrance and accessible entrance may differ. Save the Chinese name, map pin and staffed contact.

SURFACE

Ask what the route contains

Check slopes, historic thresholds, cobbles, gravel, shuttle boarding, distance, lift availability and whether the return uses the same route.

LIMIT

Separate partial from complete access

A venue may offer an accessible entrance without an accessible route to every gallery, tower, wall section or viewpoint.

DO NOT IMPROVISE A LIFT

Do not let untrained strangers carry a traveler or heavy mobility device on stairs merely because the planned entrance failed. Stop, find venue staff and switch to the verified alternative.

06 / SHOW STAFF

Use one precise request at a time

PRIMARY SOURCES & SCOPE

Framework does not equal on-site proof

Reviewed 26 August 2026. China’s barrier-free law and transport policies establish rights, duties and service routes; they do not prove that a particular lift, room, vehicle, station exit or attraction path is available on the traveler’s date. Reconfirm with the responsible operator and property.
