Card will not link?
Find the owner.
Do not keep changing details at random. Capture the exact Alipay message, check whether the issuer received a verification request, then contact the side that controls the visible failure.
- 01Save the exact message
- 02Check card and issuer
- 03Contact the right owner
- 04Prepare another payment path
Keep the error. Do not guess the cause.
Record the wording, time and step where the link failed. Hide the card number, security code, identity details and one-time codes before sharing a screenshot with official support.
Check only what you can verify
Use the official Alipay app and its current card-add screen. Official national guidance says overseas card links require verification by the issuing bank, while supported card brands, limits and other rules can differ by payment product.
Exact message
Save the wording and the point where the process stopped. Do not reduce every error to “bank declined.”
Visible details
Recheck the number, expiry and other fields requested by the official screen. Never send a security code to a helper.
Verification request
Look for an authorization, security check or decline in the issuer’s official app or messages.

Follow the message, not a generic list
Public guidance does not expose every platform or issuer rule. These branches deliberately stop where the responsible service must inspect the account or card.
01The card network or card type is not accepted
Compare the card’s network with the networks currently shown in Alipay. Official national guidance lists major international networks but also says product coverage can vary. If the app does not show the card as eligible, use another eligible card or another payment method.
02The issuer declined or verification did not arrive
Check the issuer’s official app or messages, then contact the number on the back of the card. Ask whether the issuer received or rejected the card-link verification. Alipay cannot override an issuer decision.
03Alipay requests identity or account verification
Complete only the checks shown inside the official app. If the prompt is unclear, blocked or repeatedly returns to the same step, use official Alipay support. Do not upload identity documents to a person or third-party website.
04The app shows a technical or unknown error
Confirm that the phone is online and that the official app can load normally. Preserve the exact error and contact Alipay if it persists. We do not prescribe an undocumented waiting period or claim that changing network settings will remove platform controls.
05No side can identify the cause
Ask Alipay whether the link request reached the platform, and ask the issuer whether it received a verification or authorization attempt. If neither can confirm eligibility, treat this card as unavailable for app funding and use an independent backup.

Use the message to choose support
Account, identity, eligibility or app error
Use Help inside the official app or Alipay’s official support channel. The official overseas-user number is +86 571 95188; an English China Wallet hotline is also published as +86 571 2688 6000.
Issuer decline or missing bank verification
Use the issuer’s official app or the number on the card. Ask whether it received the Alipay card-link verification and whether the card can be used for this type of overseas online request.
Setup fails before checkout
A cashier cannot repair an account or card-link failure. Prepare another payment method before relying on Alipay at the counter.
Support details can change. Verify the number in the official app or linked provider page before calling. Never provide a payment password or one-time code on an unsolicited call.
A second card may use a different path
If Alipay currently shows the card network as eligible, you can try a card you own from a different issuer or network. Issuers make their own verification and authorization decisions, so a second card can behave differently—but it is not a guaranteed fix.
- 01
Keep the first error
Do not erase the evidence you may need when contacting Alipay or the issuer.
- 02
Use your own eligible card
Follow only the current official screen. Do not borrow identity details or use a third-party “verified” account.
- 03
Stop if ownership remains unclear
Repeated attempts are not a substitute for an issuer or platform answer. Move to a backup and resolve setup outside an urgent checkout.
Prepare an independent payment stack
Physical card
Carry the card and ask whether the merchant terminal accepts its network logo.
Second issuer
A card from another account or issuer is more independent than retrying the same card.
RMB cash
Cash remains an official payment option. Smaller notes are easier when a merchant has limited change.
Other official app
Only if it is already set up and verified; do not start an unfamiliar account flow at an urgent checkout.
PHOTO NEEDED · 4:3 · Traveller preparation kit with phone, two privacy-safe physical cards and a small RMB cash reserve; no readable card number or identity data.
Verification is not a job for a stranger
- Do not share a one-time code or payment password.
- Do not send a passport image or full card photo to an unofficial helper.
- Do not pay a “verification agent” or use a pre-verified account.
- Do not follow a link sent by an unsolicited caller or message.
- Do not try to bypass identity, region, fee or risk controls.
Alipay card-link FAQ
Why will my international card not link to Alipay?
The public error alone may not show whether the issue belongs to Alipay, the card issuer or the card itself. Official Chinese guidance confirms that an overseas card link requires issuer verification and that supported card brands and rules can vary by payment product. Check the current in-app message, then contact the service that owns the visible failure.
Should I keep trying to add the same card?
Do not repeat the same attempt without checking the error and the issuer response. Save the exact message, confirm that the card details are correct and look for an authorization or verification request in the issuer app or messages. If the owner is still unclear, use official Alipay support or contact the issuer.
Can I try a different international card?
Yes, if it is your card and the current Alipay prompt shows its network as eligible. A card from a different issuer or network may follow a different verification path, but success is not guaranteed. Keep a physical card and RMB cash as independent travel backups.
Can someone else verify or link the card for me?
Do not use an unofficial paid verification service or give another person your one-time code, payment password, passport image or full card details. Complete requested checks only inside the official app or through the card issuer’s official channel.
Use the checkout recovery page instead
A card-link failure happens during setup. A rejected QR or mobile payment after setup follows a different decision path.
